SF Marina’s floating breakwaters, measuring up to ten metres wide and 3.6 metres high, offer superior protection against waves and storm surges, with minimal environmental impact. Setting them apart from standard pontoons, the increased depth, mass, reinforcement strength, advanced connectors, and robust anchoring of these breakwaters allow them to efficiently absorb wave energy.

A breakwater is essential for protecting a marina from storms and hurricanes – it is the foundation for a safe marina. First developed in the 1980s, SF Marina’s floating breakwaters around the world have withstood extreme weather conditions, including typhoons and hurricanes, for nearly 40 years. Each breakwater is custom-built, with a reliable and cost-effective anchoring plan to meet site-specific needs, ensuring resilience in the most challenging environments.

While all concrete pontoons attenuate waves, floating breakwaters are engineered to handle more demanding conditions:

1. Reinforced mooring rings: Our mooring rings are so robust that the entire breakwater can be lifted by a single ring, ensuring durability.

2. Advanced coupling system: This patented system includes access wells with heavy steel plates, stainless steel cut-outs, coupling wires packed with anti-corrosive grease, and heavy rubber cylinders between the pontoons. These features enable centre couplings to handle torsional loads and accommodate specific angles.

3. Mooring technique: The technique employs heavy concrete anchors and chains, coupled with shackles to a strong bridle ring, keeping the pontoons stable and properly spaced even in high winds.
