A new landmark marina on the Markermeer

Monnickendam lies just 15 kilometres north of Amsterdam, on the sheltered shores of the Markermeer, with its smaller and larger neighbouring lakes the IJmeer and IJsselmeer. Founded by monks and dating back to the 14th century, the town grew into an important trading and fishing port, but its access to the North Sea was closed off by a dam in 1932. Long associated with shipbuilding, trade and smoked fish, Monnickendam remains closely connected to the water. Its maritime expertise continues through specialist yards such as Royal Hakvoort Shipyard, known for building custom superyachts. For boating, the redevelopment of an outdated harbour district made it possible to combine two marinas, Hemmeland and Galgeriet, into one modern waterfront facility.

Completed in time for the 2026 season, Jachthaven Waterland features a new floating dock system engineered and supplied by SF Marina. The original wooden piers have been replaced with durable concrete pontoons, designed to deliver exceptional stability, long service life and low maintenance. At the centre of the marina, the main pontoon is 220 metres long and six metres wide, supported by a wider pontoon network totalling more than 800 metres in length and anchored by 30-centimetre steel piles. The layout includes 224 finger piers and 850 berths for boats of 7–15 metres, with larger vessels accommodated alongside. The pontoons were designed and built in Sweden and shipped from there to Amsterdam, then towed to Monnickendam, marking SF Marina’s first installation in the Netherlands. Additional upgrades include Seijsener power pedestals and a new 30-tonne boat lift, further strengthening Jachthaven Waterland’s position as the leading full-service marina on the inland IJsselmeer-Markermeer.
