A new breakwater for Karlsborg’s waterfront
Karlsborg is located on the western shore of Lake Vättern, one of Sweden’s largest lakes and known for rapidly changing weather conditions that can generate significant wave action.
As part of the redevelopment of the historic Stenbryggan waterfront, Karlsborg Municipality replaced the existing breakwater, which had reached the end of its service life, with a new floating solution from SF Marina.
The installation consists of nine SFBW400 floating concrete breakwaters, each 20 metres long and 4 metres wide, creating a total protected length of 180 metres. The breakwater provides wave attenuation and calmer water conditions inside the harbour while also forming part of the renewed public waterfront.
The units are anchored with heavy-duty chains and reinforced concrete anchors, allowing the floating structure to follow variations in water level while remaining securely positioned under wind and wave loads.
