SCATTERINGS OF GÖTEBORG

The city of Gothenburg is endowed with not only one archipelago to the north, but also another to the south of the Göta Älv river mouth, where the river meets the Kattegatt sea area. The southern archipelago begins in the north at the island of Rivö and stretches approximately 10 nautical miles south – as the crow (or seagull) flies – to the outer islands of Tistlarna. The larger inhabited islands, each with its own characteristics and history, are easily reached by ferry from the city. But to enjoy the rest of the archipelago, many of whose islands provide well protected natural harbours, you need your own vessel. No wonder a large number of marinas are scattered along the coast.

Önnereds Båtlag (Önnereds Boating Association), runs a small marina located in Gothenburg’s southern archipelago, providing 295 well-protected berths. When the Association was looking to replace the original pontoons, dating back to 1979, they enlisted SF Marina to design and manufacture new, state-of-the-art floating concrete pontoons with galvanized steel Y-finger booms. SF Marina managed to optimize space in the basin, adding a further 15 income-generating berths at little extra cost. The pontoons are secured using heavy-duty chains and precast concrete anchors. Utilities, such as power and water, are routed through internal ducts, ending in El-Björn Alfa-II pedestals.

The floating dock was completed in March 2023, just in time for the boating season.
