UNIQUE BLEND OF WATER, SUSTAINABILITY, AND UNPARALLELED HOSPITALITY
The island of Slottsholmen, located in the heart of the picturesque coastal town of Västervik in Sweden, has been developed into an attractive gathering point for local residents and visitors alike, with a new restaurant, boutique hotel, conference facilities, and a public swimming pool and spa. The owners, who include Björn Ulvaeus of ABBA fame among their number, wanted to support the development by adding a floating hotel designed by Swedish architects Sandell Sandberg. Contractor 2A Entreprenad enlisted SF Marina to deliver a concrete pontoon for its base structure.
The floating hotel at Slottsholmen in Västervik is SF Marina’s second floating hotel in Sweden, after Salt & Sill in the Bohuslän Archipelago. The special pontoons were constructed at SF Marina’s production plant at Wallhamn and shipped to Västervik, where a two-storey building was added.
The hotel, which measures 60 metres by 10 metres, consists of 33 rooms on two levels. Set against Slottsholmen, it frames the area’s new quay and water area, and ensures visitors can come as close to the water as possible. The roof of the hotel is covered with solar panels that power a desalination plant, and heating is provided by a geothermal heat pump. With minimal interference with water circulation, the concrete pontoons and the new hotel offer a unique blend of water, sustainability, and unparalleled hospitality.
The hotel will be open to guests during the first half of 2020.
