A premier yachting hub in the Ionian Sea

The Ionian Sea, with its clear blue-green waters, is renowned for the excellent sailing conditions that make it a favourite among sailors from around the world seeking a relaxed yet rewarding experience. With mild winds and a favourable climate all year round, temperatures range from 20 to 32 degrees Celsius, ensuring pleasant sailing in all seasons. The Ionian Islands, off the west coast of mainland Greece, comprise seven main islands – Corfu, Paxos, Lekas, Ithaca, Kefalonia, Zakynthos, and Kythira – along with numerous smaller islets. Each island boasts its own unique charm, from verdant landscapes and historic towns to tranquil coves and vibrant harbours. Many yacht owners return to the region every summer, often choosing to store their boats in Greece during the winter months. As a result, marinas and boatyards across Greece provide secure, well-equipped facilities for off-season storage.

In the heart of the Ionian Sea, Cleopatra Marina was established in 2001 and is home to Greece’s largest dry-docking facility, offering secure winter storage for up to 1,000 boats on land. Strategically located on the historic Aktion Peninsula, the marina sits at the entrance of the Amvrakikos Gulf, directly opposite Preveza and near the island of Lefkada. Its prime position makes it an ideal starting or ending point for sailors exploring the region. Beyond its extensive dry-docking capabilities, Cleopatra Marina offers wet berthing for 100 vessels, accommodating yachts up to 30 metres long. The marina is well protected from the waves generated by the Preveza Strait thanks to an advanced 250-metre floating breakwater of the SF 400 type. This breakwater consists of modular elements – 11 pieces of 20 metres and two of 15, each 4 metres wide – connected through a patented system designed to effectively absorb and distribute stress loads. Anchored by pre-cast concrete blocks and the SEAFLEX mooring system, the breakwater ensures stability and durability. Manufactured by SF Marina in Porto Lagos, Greece, the structure was transported and installed at Aktion seamlessly in 2008, further reinforcing Cleopatra Marina’s reputation as a premier yachting facility in the Ionian Sea.
