MINUTES AWAY. WORLDS APART.
A short boat ride away from Boston in Massachusetts, some 30 islands make up the Boston Harbor Islands National & State Park. The park offers ideal sailing conditions and there is ample opportunity to explore secluded beaches and unique rock formations along with historic military forts and abandoned hospital sites. The brick buildings of a defunct fort on Peddocks Island were used as a location for Martin Scorsese’s film “Shutter Island”, starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
Across Hull Bay from Peddocks Island, and with easy access to the Boston Harbor Islands, lies the Safe Harbor Sunset Bay marina with 181 seasonal slips, 244 metres of transient dockage, and 20 moorings. Safe Harbor, with 100 marinas across 22 states, enlisted SF Marina to design and manufacture a new floating wave attenuator to protect Sunset Bay’s docks from the fetch of Hull Bay, which can produce extremely strong waves. The new state-of-the-art floating breakwater, created in 2021, is 280 metres long and four metres wide. The 20 pontoon units are held together using advanced connection technology and are fixed with the aid of 76-centimetre steel piles driven into the seabed.
