MAXIMIZING THE VALUE OF A WATERFRONT DEVELOPMENT
Once a trading and fishing settlement, Portland has evolved into a fusion of 19th century architecture, cobblestone streets, modern design, trendy art galleries, award-winning restaurants and, even today, active fishermen. Like no other city, Portland has succeeded in melding the cool and the quaint with the present and the past. Many people commute to Portland, and its population increases significantly during the summer.
Ten acres of former industrial land along Portland’s eastern waterfront is currently being transformed to a large-scale, mixed-use development – Portland Foreside – comprising retail outlets, hotels, restaurants, and housing, and with the Fore Points marina as its core. Locally owned, this gated marina has 150 slipways, and berths for twelve super yachts. Located on the site of a former railway foundry and protected by the most advanced floating wave attenuator, the marina offers a deep, safe harbour for both locals and visitors to Casco Bay and the Gulf of Maine.
The floating breakwater was designed and manufactured by SF Marina in Sweden.
Fore Points Marina was opened in 2019.
